Well, what a day..
Today my 'former' boss Martin announced that this was his last day with our company and that he was retiring...
Although I knew it was coming I had no idea it was today... Its just his way of doing things
32 years seniority makes for a hell of a long, and fruitful career.
I rushed to make sure that he had a proper send off including the obligatory cake and ice-cream get together, and after hours drinks...
This guy was one-of-a-kind... A Norwegian fellow who had a great way of attacking a difficult business situation, and was wise enough to know the best path to take in almost any situation.
All I can say is that I am very grateful to have worked, and most of all learned under him...

I know companies must re-invent themselves and bring in new blood, but he is one asset that will be missed, unless of course we hire him as a high priced consultant (a great idea in my book).

Anyway.. Although I know he will never see this,.. Martin.. The pleasure and gratitude was all ours... Thanks for the knowledge and the memories... All the best on your new ventures...(and remember us when you get your company going).

Another day another $3.50

Prepping for the big world tour, and its starting to get exciting... Looks like KL is out and Jakarta is in.

Floyd (My Dad (the original)) and Carolyn are coming in a couple more days so we are getting excited (and ready) for that.

My throat is getting a bit sore... hope its not he beginning of a cold (THAT WOULD SUCKITH)...

On the tech front, the data loading script seems to work enough to get us going... Still waiting on the conversion scipts from the old app to the new one...

This Thursday we have the 1/2 way sonogram! We get to check out the 'Treybe' (Baby-Trey) ... We still don't want to know if it is a boy or a girl...

A couple of good meetings today, but still need to concentrate on preparing for teaching those classes here and around the world.

And now we preview the completely new and re-engineered coffee make.
Note that the following design was built for six times over budget, and took 4 years to design and build, by the best engineers we could find, who had never tried coffee themselves....



And the amazing thing is that it still doesn't work half the time and the coffee has a greenish tint to it... Be we call it a success anyway!!


But don't fret,.. Engineering coffee make version 2.0 is do out in 4 & 1/2 more years (unless we slip the estimate), is based on no client feedback, but will be a 'usability release' and looks something like this:

Well, I officially missed the first day (Saturday) since I started this blog...
A Recap of things accomplished this week:

Added two wheel barrels of dirt (from Tim) to the low areas in the yard (and helped my friend Tim work for an hour or two in his yard).

Steam Cleaned the Carpet (it needed it).

Started moving stuff out of the Babies room, to start to fix it up.

Installed a fountain we bought in the back (quite a chore, but it looks really nice).

Had a demo of the product today for some folks for in Western Australia...
I went fantastic... the client was very interested and engaged, asking a ton of technical questions, and that is just the way I like it, it allows me, and the application to shine!



My Dad has a new computer he is setting up... I haven't seen I yet but having heard the specs it sounds really impressive.

Tish is doing well, the baby is moving allot these days.

tomorrow Tish and I both have fun things planned, I'm gonna try to make it a company crawfish boil (which I used to be very involved in planning, but have since gotten way to busy) and tish is going to a friends house.

I cant wait for the weekend! Just one more meeting (and good god those are long),.. and the rest is an easy ride... a hard week, but a lot accomplished.

Well, its just an hour before Tish comes in from Mexico. And I think I have made it...
I finished this mornings meeting, and quickly cleaned the entire house (no breakfast no lunch),.. But I cant wait to see her.

A lot done in one morning... Then when we get back just couple other tasks I need to accomplish today then the weekend official starts.

Its been a very long week. This mornings meeting was ROUGH,.. But its business.

Just got back from town. Hanging out a a pool hall watching a friend play pool with some rednecks while we talked business.

unfortunately after leaving one of the rednecks left his wallet at the bar, my friend Andy chased him out to give it to him, only to be accused of taking money out of it, and getting a couple of punches thrown at him...

Its soo sad... and to think that the stupid (not a generalization about rednecks but definitely this set) are procreation faster than we are... uck..



On the drive home - and no its the camera, not the beer

Well its lunch time, and me and the guys from the company I am working with on the software are going out for a lunch.
We might get 30 min of shopping for a digital camera in today (I'm looking for one for the Trey-be (Me & Patas Baby)).

Anyway,.. It was a good morning. I think we have a solution for the problem in the software we found (might set us back a week) but we will be in good shape..

My friend Barron just reminded me that there is a happy hour at Mathais Bar and Grill on 1960 (Houston) tonight starting at around 6:00PM. It sound like fun, I just have to see if I can clear up all of the business before heading up there... We are trying to get a regular happy hour thing going again (as we used to do very regularly for more than a year (details later)).

We will see...

Blogging day 2

Just finished waking up. I have to drive in today to meet with one of our business partners (the one that I am working on the software with). The one good thing is that I had a chance to sleep a little later than I normally would... 5:00AM can be rough!

Today should be filled with meetings and technical discussions on the software and the marketing issues as we near the release.

tomorrow Patricia comes back (I can't wait). I'll be working from home, so that I can run by the airport and pick her up. Which of course means that tonight I need to really clean up around here... If she would see the kitchen (where we keep the dog fenced in with baby fences) she would have a heart attack... The dog has managed to destroy all of it toys, and in the process spread the toy stuffing and the like all of the floor... Nothing a good sweep and mop wont take care of... (at least he is having fun... I guess).

Well off to the shower, then I need to decide whether to drive into my office or directly to our partners office (different parts of town). I really need to spend some time over there assuring that the data migration scripts (for the software) are nearing readiness.

Well, its the evening of my first blogging day...
All in all it was a ok day... I met up with my friend Brent, we ate some dinner.
He drove me back to where we live, then I went my the neighbors house for a quick beer and a chat.

One small unfortunate issue, I found a critical bug late in the day before leaving... This may cause a slight delay in the release. We will see

Other than that, I would consider the day a success.

I'll Finnish playing with the dog, and then its off to bed... Asta manyana!

Exciting News!
Just got back from lunch! Ok, Its not really exciting, but Martin, John, Andrea and I had fun.
John predicts that this will last no more than two weeks, we will see.
Just 3 more hours till I have to catch the van home.... Walk the dog, do some shopping, then TVIO the night away.

Today I am working on acceptance testing the software we have been working on for the past year...
My friend and co-worker John is putting together a Unix box to test it on that platform.

I just found out we made another sale, which is good news.. Things are really getting exciting! But then again I knew they would. We have put a lot of hard work into the application (which I will not mention - well maybe later).

Other than than, Pata (my wife) is still in Mexico visiting her parents, she will be back on Friday (can't wait).

Looking at doing Thai for lunch.. There is a cool little Thai buffet not to far from the office and I think John and Andrea will be coming along.
